This drink tastes like my early twenties. I hated writing that sentence, because in my mind and my heart I’m still 22. The truth is, I’m very solidly in my late 20’s and so, drinks with esoteric names like Kansas City Ice Water don’t have quite the same effect as they did to a spritely 20-year-old traipsing through Florence.
Case in point: 20-year-old me would go with friends to our favorite restaurant where we often were treated to free wine, then go to a bar and order one long island ice tea. Drinks were expensive in Europe and we were all about getting the best bang for our buck. 27-year-old me drank half of the drink above and called it quits. It’s incredibly tasty–and that’s entirely the danger.
I guess what I’m saying is, this drink makes me want to be 20 again.
Here’s the recipe.
Kansas City Ice Water (makes 1 drink)
- 1 ounce gin
- 1 ounce vodka
- 1 ounce lime juice
- 1/2 ounce triple sec
- 3 ounces club soda
- Fill a highball glass with ice. Set aside.
- Fill a shaker with ice and combine the gin, vodka, lime juice and triple sec. Shake vigorously.
- Pour over ice and top with club soda.
